The Porto Law Firm represents businesses of all sizes in a wide range of matters. This representation begins with advising clients of the proper form of a new business and then drafting the necessary formation and operating documents. Once the business is formed, the Porto Law Firm is regularly retained to advise these businesses in routine matters such as employee disputes, issues involving termination and other disciplinary actions, the negotiation and drafting of contracts and leases, and other matters. Often times, proper legal representation regarding these matters can prevent unnecessary and expensive litigation. However, if litigation is unavoidable, the Porto Law Firm is committed to aggressively and efficiently resolving such matters to obtain the best potential result.
Small businesses, in particular, appreciate the Porto Law Firm’s unique Billing Philosophy and commitment to alternative fee agreements, which allows business owners to accurately predict their legal costs and budget for the same.
The Porto Law Firm has developed a national reputation for providing sound legal advice to tow truck owners and operators throughout the United States. We have represented clients in every facet of the tow industry, ranging from billing issues to defending claims of overcharging and claims for overtime pay violations. We are particularly passionate about advocating for the more stringent enforcement of Move Over Laws, which are designed to protect tow operators and other emergency workers on the roadway. In addition to our legal practice, Nicholas Porto has been a frequent presenter at tow shows across the nation and regularly authors articles about legal issues pertaining to the tow industry.
Since the Firm’s inception in 2011, our Firm has been responsible for in excess of $10,000,000.00 in recoveries for individuals hurt and killed by the negligence of others. Because of our Firm’s knowledge in legal issues specific to the towing and transportation industry, a significant portion of these recoveries have involved tow operators and other emergency workers who were struck on the roadway. In 2013, our Firm obtained a landmark recovery for the family of a young tow operator who was tragically killed while in the line of duty. Since this time, Nicholas Porto has been a frequent advocate for enhanced Move Over Laws for tow operators and other emergency workers on the roadway.
The Porto Law Firm is proud to represent some of the most respected landowners and property management companies in the Kansas City area. We are well versed in all aspects of real estate transactions, including drafting and reviewing purchase agreements, leases, and financing, and are frequently retained to assist our clients in these areas. We also handle a wide range of residential and commercial landlord tenant issues and have prosecuted hundred of evictions in the greater Kansas City area.
My name is Nicholas Porto. My goal as a lawyer has always been to treat a client’s legal situation as if it were my own. I understand legal issues are serious and truly do care about my client’s outcome. In the process, I try and keep my legal fees reasonable. I don’t charge for routine phone calls because I want my clients to feel comfortable contacting me, no matter what time. I pride myself in the fact that most of my clients have become my closest friends.
I am a lifelong resident of Kansas City. I attended Rockhurst High School, the University of Missouri-Columbia, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, where I served as Literary Editor of the Law Review. Upon my graduation from law school, I spent one year as a judicial law clerk in Jackson County, Missouri and then spent several years at a prominent Kansas City litigation firm. In 2011, I realized a lifelong dream and founded the Porto Law Firm. I am also an adjunct professor at a local community college where I teach tort and contract law. I currently reside in the Kansas City area with my wife, Christina, and our four children: Rosemary, Charlie, Agnes, and Beatrice.
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. I attended Rockhurst High School and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia cum laude with a double major in Economics and Finance & Banking. After graduation, I stayed in Columbia to attend law school at the University of Missouri, where I served on the Missouri Law Review and published the article: Missouri Still Refuses to Impose Social Host Liability for Furnishing Alcohol to Minors, 71 Mo. L. Rev. 841 (2006). After receiving my juris doctor degree in 2007, I served two years as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Sandra C. Midkiff in the 16th Circuit Court of Jackson County, and then worked as an attorney at a personal injury litigation firm focusing primarily on products liability cases. In 2015, I established Al J Smith Law, llc. Whether in criminal matters or civil litigation, my focus as an attorney has always been the representation of individuals and small businesses and achieving results for my clients that will have a measurable benefit to their life or business. I place a great deal of importance on having direct and open lines of communication with my clients so that they are fully informed of the legal process every step of the way.
